Pop Idol 2024
What a fantastic evening!
With 31 entries from Blackpool schools there was a massive amount of vocal talent on the stage at Montgomery High School on Thursday 9th May. The different song genres covered everything from swing to the very latest pop songs. Such a variety of performances from children aged 8 to 18 identified huge talent and so much confidence. This was highlighted by adjudicators Hayley Kay and Chrissie Mason who applauded the unique talent of every young performer.
Every performer was chosen by their school having beaten off hundreds of other performers so, the Pop Idol event truly was a complete evening of winning performances. Whilst all performers are to be applauded the Primary School winners included; Isabel Bennion from Stanley School who came third, Isla McNeal from Norbreck who came second and Pippa Kelly who also came from Norbreck School, who came first. In the high school competition, third place was awarded to Georgina Clayton from St Mary’s Catholic Academy. Also from St Mary’s Catholic Academy was Hayden Whitehurst who was awarded second place. And our Pop Idol champion for the evening was Lily-Mae Twist from St George’s High School who sang Whitney Houston’s powerful ballad, ‘I Have Nothing’.
Music Adviser Andrew White said ‘we have so much talent in Blackpool and so rarely get such an opportunity to see and hear so many wonderful performances. The talent of tonight’s young Blackpool vocalists has been exceptional and every performer should be so very proud of their achievement and performance’.
