Virtual Musician of the Year 2023
We held our Musician of the Year competition ‘virtually’ in 2023. Support from so many Blackpool Schools was excellent and it was the schools themselves who provided our ultimate list of virtual finalists.
Here is a list of the winners:
Key Stage 4
1st – Ruben Page from St Mary’s Catholic Academy
Ruben played ‘Time’ from the movie ‘Inception’. Comments from the adjudicators include “The quiet sensitive start shows he is an accomplished player with excellent style and exceptional practical skills’.
2nd – Harrison Owen from Aspire Academy.
Harrison played ‘First Date’ on drum kit. Adjudicators comments include: “Excellent co-ordination and conviction. It’s always important as a percussionist to keep your performance with that of others so if necessary drop your volume to hear what else is going on.”
3rd – Tyler Butt from Unity Academy.
Tyler performed ‘Prelude in C# minor’ on the piano. Adjudicators comments include: “Clearly a musician with exceptional talent and much potential.” “We can’t help but be impressed with this performance…”
Key Stage 3
1st – Bethany Casey from Millfield High School and BMS Youth Concert Band.
Bethany performed “Tico Tico no fuba’ on the flute. “An excellent tone is displayed from the start. You set an excellent tempo and display good articulation and style” were some of the comments from the adjudicators.
2nd – Bob Hutchins from Unity Academy
Bob performed ‘Tiptoe and Tango’ on flute. The adjudicators remarked: “A confident start is displayed together with appropriate practical skills.” “All notes are pitched accurately and rhythm is good.”
Key Stage 2
1st – Olivia Flowers from Anchorsholme Academy
Olivia performed ‘La Chevaleresque’ on piano. “A well chosen item for a talented young lady who clearly has much talent. The opening is confident and secure.” commented the adjudicators.
2nd – Abbie Impett from St Nicholas School
Abbie performed ‘Summer Song’ on piano. The adjudicators comments included: “You display some excellent skills in many sections and your style is ideal for this genre.” “Clearly a musician with both talent and potential.”
3rd Callum Glendenning from Boundary School
Callum performed ‘Broadway Bounce’ on drum kit. The adjudicators commented: “A very good start with excellent tempo and rhythm performed throughout…” “You finish with a display of good co-ordination and strength.”
