For the last 18 years we have experienced some wonderful music-making with our African friends from Johannesburg. Evidencing work reflecting African cultures and traditions has been very useful for many schools when requested by Ofsted and, when taking Arts Awards.
We offer schools a single day option which has always been both popular and provided excellent outcomes.
Each daily programme provided three, one hour school based sessions in African Singing, Dance and Djembe Drumming, a full assembly performance and, a live staged performance to end the day.
Wedzi and his team return on 28 October 2024, with new traditional songs, dances and djembe drumming patterns. Designed to immerse children in the high energy and excitement of the djembes, African culture and traditions are very evident in all performances which also create an excellent link to their new programme relating to the abolition of slavery.
More than 1,000 children enjoy full assemblies, unique workshops and live performances.
Wedzi and Tina’s unique teaching skills and empathy towards our children and insight into African cultures is very rewarding. Exciting lessons and musical experiences our children will never forget.
African drumming can help children learn many skills, including:
- Rhythm and improvisation: Learn a traditional African piece of music and improve rhythmic and improvisational skills

- Manual and psychomotor skills: Improve manual and psychomotor skills

- Musical individuality: Develop musical individuality and personality
- Dexterity, focus, and stamina: Build dexterity, focus, and stamina
African drumming can also help children build strength, coordination, and concentration. It can connect children to the world’s rich tapestry of cultures through the universal language of rhythm.
