Music Medals are teacher-led assessments for Blackpool Music Service instrumental and vocal pupils that introduce essential skills. They build on what is taught in lessons and enable students to gain recognition for their hard work. We currently offer Bronze, Silver and Gold Music Medals, each of which come with a certificate and a corresponding badge.
Once children have displayed sufficient musical skills, musical understanding and progress, they will be offered to take their Music Medal. This opportunity has many advantages including providing children with short-term targets, and an achievement programme of celebration during a time when young musicians most need encouragement.
The cost of each examination at £17 per Music Medal is the cheapest we can provide. We only offer this examination once your child has acquired the appropriate skills and is performed in a non-confrontational environment, because children can often find examinations intimidating.
Our examination repertoires are made from familiar pieces, from music books your child will already be using, so there is no need to buy additional resources. The assessment itself will be made by your child’s instrumental teacher who will provide a written report and a recording for BMS to ensure that the moderation and standardisation of the examination achievements are fully appreciated.
These examinations are not compulsory but we believe it is beneficial to show progression and acquired skills. If you are willing to support your child in these examinations, we ask that you encourage them to practise every evening and to look forward to performing at a high standard in their examination.
