We are delighted to announce that a new, independent group named Friends of Blackpool Music Service has now received Charity Status. Managed by Trustees, this status will enable the new body to accept sponsorship, donations and financial gifts which will then be used to support the music making of thousands of local children.
Gift Aid will be applied for with the permission of each donor in order to increase contributions from the Government. It is hoped that such an initiative will help to overcome the extensive deprivation within Blackpool by supporting those young, talented musicians who are struggling to finance higher graded examinations and to help to finance expensive large scaled performance venues in which thousands of children presently have an interest.
To give you an indication of what your donation could purchase we offer the following guidance:
• £20 Music Accessories and tutor books
• £70 A good student guitar or violin
• £120 A student electric guitar and small amp
• £200 The fees and music for a higher graded examination (Grade 5+)
• £300 A good student model flute, clarinet or brass cornet
• £500 A good drum kit with cymbals
• £1,000 Sponsorship of a small scaled event
• £2,000 An exceptional quality musical instrument
• £5,000 Sponsorship of a large scaled event
Our first donation was received from Professor Margaret Maden. She has also been the main driving force in establishing this initiative for which we offer our extended thanks and gratitude. Such a wonderful financial gift is always appreciated most by those who recognise the need for such funding and, by those children and families who receive the funding. In recent years, such support has improved thousands of Blackpool children’s literacy, numeracy, social interaction and communication. In addition, it has allowed our children to experience making music with some of the best orchestras, bands and vocalists in the UK.
